This Myanmar motorcycle tour, heads north out of Thailand and into one of the most secretive, interesting countries on earth. Not only that, the beautiful ride north through villages and mountains bring us to the “noncompliant” town of Mongla on the Myanmar-China border.
With Myanmar emerging from decades of civil war, the military
checkpoints along the way are still pretty serious and intimidating (at
first).

This is one of the biggest Myanmar military checkpoints we came across on this Myanmar motorcycle tour.
It immediately feels different to Thailand, you’re on the other side of the road for one & has a much quieter, slow pace.
The motorcycle ride north in Myanmar is fantastic. Lots of villages,
markets, ethnic hilltribe communities, fun curves and big mountains. In a
group it makes the experience more enjoyable, sharing stories of riding
“moments” passed in the day is always a hot topic when riding in
Myanmar.
There some priceless Myanmar Akha hilltribe villages that are
accessible by motorcycle. It needs to be dry to get there by motorcycle
but shouldn’t be an issue.
From the Myanmar Akha villages, we ride north to the beautiful,
un-molested (by tourists) town of Kengtung / Chiang Tung. A magical
town, full of resources – rice, teak, minerals, livestock and many many
more. It’s worth spending some time here looking around, there’s a great
local market and some really spiritual temples.

Entering
Kengtung on a Myanmar motorcycle tour is a truly special experience.
Unique, enormous, temples, greet you as you ride in.
Nice hotel in Kengtung, with delicious local Shan food for our evening meal.

Kentung
locals market is one of the most special markets in Myanmar. The region
produces rice, teak, sugar cane, minerals, livestock and numerous
others, making this a huge bustling market.
